Unboxing a rogue trader Chaos Dreadnought

You know what people? I don't know if it's the french in me who wants to follow trends and fashion or if it's just due to a complete lack of personality but I somehow felt like making some unboxing kind of posts. Yeah just like any other wargaming/ hobby blog.

Problem is I don't really buy boxes or blisters that often...

Fortunaely enough, I've just managed to trade some models to get my hands on a second rogue trader chaos Dreadnought... M...I...B like MINT IN BOX.

Now I already hear the purists among you scream "nooooo don't !" , some even taking assess dolls and trying to stick needles in the heart in a poor voodoo cursing attempt.

I am opening this blister anyway so relax and let me share this experience with you.

Few things really make me happy in this world but the beauty of nature and women, children's laughter and a MINT model in its blister are some of the very few...
Having contacted a fellow hobbyist for trades, I've been asked if I wanted my chaos dreadnought in its blister or not... funny question really! The trader could resign himself to open the blister and on the other hand I wanted badly to see my model in its original package. Just to feel like in the good old days, see what I mean? Looks like we had a deal.

"Monsters and Robots" or "why I love Rogue trader"

Amongst all the miniatures that are filling my painting range, I managed to nail a couple by settings the standards low and by using dry times of washes and things like that. It even gave me the occasion to enter them for Chico's Big guy week.

First one to get the treatment is Godzipunch. Godzipunch is a Genetically Modified Organism created by a mad scientist (let's name him Dr Steiner) who took the secret of its creation in his tomb.

Rogue traders do come by strange planets with feral populations and some even have specimen of old species like dinosaurs.
It takes some time and energy to breed such animals but you need a pinch of added madness to modify those kind of animals to make them even deadlier. Godzipunch is the result of this very combination of talent and madness. A small T-rex with deadly punching fists...

You can note I used the power mark on the thigh as an identification number. We can easily imagine GMO's aren't always successes and it seems Godzipunch is the 25th to have been designed...

So I went in a GW store...

Just to be clear about this, this is not going to be a post with harsh language about GW or anything. It really is just me sharing a little anecdote with people who can actually appreciate it.

SOOooo, last week I had a vision, I saw something which interested me A LOT :

I just realised the new Tempestus Scions models come with loads of arms all equiped with wrist devices, reminding me of Fallout's Pipboys :

Yeah I know thta's the new version...

Models from the stuff dreams are made of ... (plus some modelling putty too)

I am pretty sure many of you will have already seen the following by now but if there is any chance you haven't then just check this out :

Our Friend Diego (Obscure Creator on the Oldhammer forum) has been working on some VERY interesting models lately. Not only do they bear his talented touch and show his impressive technical skills but he has had the very good taste to dig in forgotten and abandoned species of the fantasy and futuristic ranges.

First one is the Space minotaur

"Shorty" AKA Ratling mercenary

Hurray !
One model done ! I've been painting a lot since the beginning of the year but engaging in multiple big projects didn't leave me the place to finish anything. Now I'm starting to have models very close to completion so I can take a couple of hours once in a while or use the drying times of big washes batches to put a couple of details on the "nearly done's".
I took the opportunity offered by Chico on his blog to particpate in "stuntie week"

Shorty has proven a very nice model to paint and the very size of him makes him a model that paints itself. No place for fancy work here, most of th earmour has a rough surface which leaves no place for freehands and th emodel is so small that you basically have to apply 2 thirds left paint on this one compared to any other model.

Her's a scale shot (I know I chose the worst modle to compare him to...)

The paintsheme I used has been designed to fit in my Sensei band so th eblue and red colours were just to fit with the rest of the crew.

Only fancy details I allowed myslef on this model are the green shoulder pad and th eboots which I wanted to look like these kind of shoes :

These are actually Pataugas, not converse all stars
I associate these shoes with the old adventurers which is why it seemed to fit. It also breaks the link between the ground and the rest ofthe model which is important since the model is so small. An all brown colour wouldn't have fit and would have blended the model in the base.

You can see Shorty in the first place of the second line here :
Picture from Solegend
I do have a fistful of his friends on the page.
- Kylla Condotti
- Worldburner
- Irn Bounce The squat
- Old world Jack
- No-face Fargo
- Plunderino Pete

And apart from a couple of them, I think they will all join Sensei bands or Rogue traders. I'm only keeping those who look like bad guys to make some mercenaries.

Now I'm back to painting the Realm of Chaos challenge band...

Creating a Brat Gang or "Rogue trader with style and panache"

1990 entry by John James
1992 entry by John James
After exploring the background and available informations on the Venator gangs in confrontation and after seeing some interest about the brat gangers by some other bloggers, I felt like giving some attention to some far more colourful factions. You can find some more info about confrontation and the venators in a previous post.

For the Brat gangers, I will follow a similar way as with the venators, trying to get every bit of info I can from the original confrontation rules published in White Dwarf and trying to see if links can be made with previous and later concepts.

Rouge Noble trader and some pocket monster madness...

Working on various stuff at the moment I feel like having some breaks sometimes. An what do I do when I want to have a break from painting? I do some modeling, MWAHAHA.

Some quality TV time with my wife has got me the perfect occasion to do some sculpting on the lads below. While watching "the Hunger Games" I tried to unite a few concepts in one :
